COLLEGE CLINIC WITH LYNDSAY MASHE

UT Tyler head coach Lyndsay Mashe and her former player/grad assistant Mallory Sanders came to Legacy for our first ever college coach clinic on December 19th! It was AWESOME.

The coaches separated the younger girls and older girls and worked all skills for the first couple of hours.  Our athletes got lots of touches and great feedback from these collegiate resources.  Toward the end of the night the coaches worked game-like situations and pushed the athletes outside of their comfort zones with high intensity drills and expectations.

Our staff learned some great new drills and had a blast working together with Coach Mashe and Coach Mallory.

Overall it was a fantastic night and we look forward to maintaining a great relationship between Texas Legacy and UT Tyler!

TOURNAMENT RECAPS:

15 ROX – FAST #1 – 12/17
RECAP FROM COACH MARIA:
We finished in a close second place in our pool. We struggled early in the morning, but we played lights out in the quarterfinals of the gold bracket when it mattered. We took out TexStar who hadn’t lost a match all day! We took control of the game and never let it go. I am VERY proud because it was obvious that they were confident, believed that they could AND went out there and did it. We won 25-21 to advance to semi finals and lost there.  We had 2 injuries including our setter and our middle, so I would like to send a shout out to Hailey Pieper for setting and Faith Wilemon for playing middle during those injuries.

14 BLACK – WSC – 12/17
Won the Bronze bracket after being placed in a very tough pool to start the day.  There were so many great things for a first tournament that this group will be able to build upon and excel at during this season.  Key players were Rachel Slaton (S) with 23 aces and 25 assists and Emma Moody (M) with 20 kills, 7 aces and 2 stuffed blocks.  Serve receive was the biggest weakness, which is very common for first tournaments at 14.  This group is going to be really fun to watch as they progress and improve!

14 TEAL – WSC – 12/17
This was the first club tournament for our entire 14 TEAL team, so it was definitely a learning experience for this group.  Coach Andi started with a 5-1 then switched to a 6-2 and said it improved the confidence of the team.  They are young and inexperienced, so it was a great opportunity to learn and play in an awesome atmosphere.  There is great potential in this group and we look forward to continuing to work and improve and meet that potential throughout the season!

17 ROX – KATY ELITE 12/3
Took 4th place overall in a tournament with both 17s and 18s teams.  17 ROX placed first in their pool and went on to the gold championship bracket where they fell to Willowbrook 18 Gold.  The girls battled hard all day and competed very well for the first tournament.  Coach Katie saw lots of great things and felt like that was the best first tournament she’s coached.  Lots of potential and a solid season ahead for our 17s!

16 TEAL – CATALYST – 12/3
RECAP FROM COACH HANNA:
The tournament started off slow for us, but got much better.  After a couple of losses early on, we won a match and the girls looked good.  Kylie Pereira really stepped up and played hard and encouraged her teammates when they were down.  We saw the areas that we need to improve on and will work to speed up the tempo of our offense to be more competitive.  Other players that stood out were Lorelai Stramrood, Sarah McDowell and Geneva Allison.

Love seeing our girls leave their LEGACY on the court at their schools! Congrats ladies!! 💜🏐💜

#13 JORDYN WREN – 13 ROX SETTER
Jordyn took on the role of setter this weekend at LSR and did an amazing job.  She was very consistent with her sets, her serves, and played lights-out defense!  Jordyn is someone who I can always count on to keep the ball in play.  Way to go Jordyn!!! – Coach Erin Parks

11 ROX TEAMS 1&2
Both 11 ROX teams were FANTASTIC this past weekend!  The girls worked so hard and played very well TOGETHER.  They were the only two teams in the tournament that attempted 3 contacts on offense, and the serving was phenomenal all around.  These girls made us so proud, and we know that in the future they will benefit greatly from their early attempts at learning to play this game the way it was meant to be played!  Congratulations girls!

“Morgan is a hard working player. I can always count on her to give me 110% on and off the court. She held the team together defensively at the Katy Elite tournament this past weekend. She has greatly improved and continues to grow. She is a perfect example of a Christ-following young lady. She gives her best at everything with an extremely happy heart. This kid never ceases to amaze me! Keep up the good work.” – Coach Hanna Risher

#7 Morgan Guthrie

#7 Morgan Guthrie

HEAVYN COLEMAN – 14 ROX OUTSIDE HITTER
“Heavyn is one of the hardest working athletes I’ve ever had the pleasure to coach! She gives 100% effort 100% of the time, and I couldn’t be more proud of her growth so far this year. Her jump serve is phenomenal, she hits the floor when necessary or she’ll jump through the roof and slam a ball. She is one of those kids who does WHATEVER it takes to be the best teammate she can be, whether it’s from left side, right side, or from the bench where she’s cheering her teammates on. I love this kid!” – Coach Jen Cobb

#2 Heavyn Coleman

ANNIE SANCHEZ, DS/OH – 16 ROX
“Annie was a huge contributor to our success this weekend. Not only did she step up and play front row when she is truly a defensive specialist, but she killed it on back row, picking up some of the most impossible balls, and her serves were phenomenal all weekend. She played so smart, you never would’ve known she was a DS. The best moment had to have been seeing her scream and jump after nailing a ‘happy birthday’…all 5’3 of her!” – Coach Katie Davis
